Thousands up for grabs in Tidy Towns Special Awards
The 2023 SuperValu TidyTowns competition was launched this week in Trim, Co Meath, which was crowned Ireland’s tidiest town last year. The competition is familiar to all, as it celebrates its 65th anniversary this year. However, alongside the main event, there are an additional 14 sponsored Special Awards, with prize money awarded to initiatives focused on improving local communities.

Lorraine and her Muslim Sisters volunteer for the community
Dublin native Lorraine O’Connor founded the Muslim Sisters of Éire after she converted to Islam and began to wear the hijab. “Unfortunately I was the victim of racial attacks and Islamophobia and I wasn’t sure how to cope with that. It made me think of the women who had immigrated here who wear the headscarf. How are they feeling when it happens to them?

Next Tuesday, November 15 (from 10.30-12.30) ideas are being sought during an online forum organised by the Department of Rural and Community Development. It invites anyone who is “passionate about rural Ireland” to join the event to discuss key themes from 'Our Rural Future’.

Darndale’s leading lights shine in innovative programme
Just over a year ago, residents and staff from various organisations in Darndale and Drogheda began a new programme which aimed to develop solutions to the challenges posed in their areas. The place-based Leadership Development Programme was created in response to an increase in gang-related activities in the two localities, and to encourage greater collaboration between residents and those working in the community, such as gardaí and HSE and community development staff.
