The 2023 SuperValu TidyTowns competition was launched this week in Trim, Co Meath, which was crowned Ireland’s tidiest town last year.
The competition is familiar to all, as it celebrates its 65th anniversary this year.
However, alongside the main event, there are an additional 14 sponsored Special Awards, with prize money awarded to initiatives focused on improving local communities.
Ivan Cooper, director of public policy at The Wheel, spoke at the launch to argue for why he felt the values and principles document was “very important”. He said he could not “emphasise enough the entwined nature in the way the sector and the State collaborate in supporting people in communities and people in Ireland”.

Officially launching the values and principles document, Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Joe O’Brien, said: “The publication of these values and principles copper-fastens the renewed relationship and partnership between government and the community and voluntary sector, which has been central in addressing the crises of recent times.”
